Neohumanism
Neohumanism
What is Neohumanism?
Neohumanism is the philosophy and practice of extending love, respect, and care to all beings—human, animal, plant, and even inanimate entities of the universe. It elevates humanism to universalism, where no creature or form of life is excluded from compassion.
At its deepest level, Neohumanism teaches that our individual existence is inseparably connected to the Cosmic Existential Nucleus—the divine consciousness that sustains all life. By realizing this unity, humans can live in harmony with each other, nature, and the universe.
"When the underlying spirit of humanism is extended to everything, animate and inanimate, in this universe – I have designated this as ‘Neohumanism’. This Neohumanism will elevate humanism to universalism, love for all beings of this universe."
- Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar
The Role of Intellect and Sentiment
As human beings, we possess both instinct and intellect. How we use our intellect determines the direction of society:
- Sentimental Intellect: When intellect is driven by unchecked sentiment, it leads to selfishness, bias, and dogma—rigid, irrational beliefs that suppress free thought and give rise to superstition, oppression, and exploitation.
- Rational Intellect: When intellect is guided by rationality, it leads to devotion, wisdom, and universal love. Rationality enables us to distinguish between right and wrong and act with responsibility toward all beings.
"With dogma, even 10–20 percent of human intellect cannot be properly utilized… The human intellect has got to be liberated from all sorts of bondages, from all kinds of dogma."
— Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar
A Vision for Humanity
Neohumanism reminds us that:
- Human society is one and indivisible.
- Our duty is to promote human welfare, solidarity, and universal fraternity.
- Forgetting this truth risks the extinction of species, including humanity itself, as history has already shown with countless creatures lost due to ignorance and conflict.
Shrii Shrii Anandamurti (P.R. Sarkar) emphasized that Neohumanism is not merely a philosophy but a call to action—to expand our circle of love beyond narrow boundaries and embrace the interconnectedness of all existence.
Why Neohumanism Matters Today
In a world facing ecological crises, social inequality, and cultural conflicts, Neohumanism offers a path of:
- Compassion for all living beings
- Rational liberation from dogma and prejudice
- Harmony between humans and the natural environment
- A spiritual awakening of unity with the universe
